There’s only one problem

Not to put down the venerable David Kilcullen.. but COIN.. by it’s nature.. tends to look too closely at the problem. As I’ve said before, it doesn’t matter if we “win” in Afghanistan or Iraq. The global terrorist network is alive and well in other countries because we haven’t attacked the real problem which is the global financiers of terror.. namely in Saudi Arabia, Syria, Iran, etc… we are fooling ourselves and making a cottage industry out of bullshit military efforts. But then again, me and the boys at Small Wars and Long Wars Journal don’t see eye to eye.

Argentina’s Cristina seizes the Central Bank

Another Banana Republic power grab on their banking system.

After a month of wrangling, Argentine President Cristina Kirchner succeeded in sacking central bank President Martin Redrado last week. In his place she named Mercedes Marcó del Pont, a Yale-trained economist who has expressed the view that central bank autonomy ought to be limited.

The refreshing bit in the article is that the central bank President actually seemed to be independent.. unlike in our country where they bend over and take it from congress and the President.

Act not answering questions today.

The following was sent to Rodney hide, Heather Roy, Sir Roger Douglas, John Boscawen and David Garret this morning:

t is my understanding that Kevin Campbell is standing for the Vice-Presidency of ACT and that he has taken to referring to our Prime Minister as “John the Jew” as evidenced by the his comments on John Ansells blog which is attempting to replace our ensign with a corporate logo. He went on to defend this with “Basil, relax, its a fact he’s a Jew. If it was Helen Clark I would have said Helen the dirty filthy communist.” the characterisation is both incorrect and so casually anti-Semitic as to be utterly appalling.

This raises two issues for me (just in time for Holocaust Day coincidental). Firstly if this was a genuine comment from someone seeking a high position within Act then I would expect Act seeking to put some substantial distance between the party and this individual.Secondly his support for removal of our heritage in the form of our national ensign is obvious. Is it Acts policy to support the taking away of our flag from the thousands of New Zealander’s for whom it has great significance?

Obviously having spurred me to actually make an effort to ask these questions directly makes the answers to them directly relevant to any future support for Act. Please note any answer should be considered public and my sense of humor is currently on holiday.

As yet I have recieved no reply from any of them. My position is that unless Act visibly parts company with Kevin Campbell in the very near future act will not be a voting option for me. I am of course only one vote so Act can well afford to piss me off so just not bothering to reply or fobbing me off with a half arsed “oops, he didn’t really mean to offend anyone” line is an option. Just not one that works for me.

Anti-Semitism and seperatist republicanism you can cram. That is all.

UPDATE: I recieved the following reply from Rodney on Saturday – hey look a politician working on a Saturday. I regard his response as entirely apropriate although it does led me to question if the media have picked up on an Act seeking election to the position of vice president of the party has been refered to the president for anti-semitic comments. Just a question.

Friday afternoon lashout… focus on students.

Its that time of year again when all the newbies are arriving…

Some of them have a “plan” (actually I know one girl who is forcing herself to reall these books in an effort to gain understanding as to why utter crap sells well. Because it plays to the premise that kids actually count and their drama is real and relevant. Duh)

Others are just here to fuck things up for other people… Scoobie… err nice doggie.

Some might get lost on the way… particularly with THAT crappy map of New Zealand. further away from Australia, THREE main island… look give me a pen I’ll fix it for you… hold still…

Some are not going to make it…

Some might make it but will blow it along the way and show up two day before the exam with 7 assignments overdue, loudly prclaim to all how fucked they got last night and then claim the exam is a load of bullshit and slink off to party hard before mummy and daddy find out why they’re back home next year after blowing about 10k.

Others… well there aint no pill to fix it, but they keep showing up…

actually its a SERIOUS disability in the academic world. It wont stop you but it will slow you down. True story, university is the only place I’ve ever been where there are instructions in the toilets and people STILL GET IT WRONG! And no its not a guy thing, one of the girls tells me its the same in theirs.

Having said all that most of the people here are actually very clever and hard working with good futures, they just never make the newspapers with that hard working crap. On the up side most of the problem children will be gone by mid semester break or at least sleeping in till 3pm so we wont have to deal with them.

I’m migrating the artillery to a new blog all of its very own in an effort to filter out the very rude people who inhabit the political blogosphere. Me in other words. People who come looking for catapults will be able to get what they want without having to risk dealing with the possibility that i do not adhere to their world view. I’ll be migrating the relevant posts over the next couple of weeks and if you are parcticularly attached to any of your witty comments you’ll need to repost them at the new place because i’ll be dumping everything that here after that. There’s no need to scare potential sponsors with independant thought.
