An open letter to the Exclusive Brethren.

I have frequently spoken up for your rights as New Zealand citizens, and defended your right to participate in our political system and spend your own money as you see fit. This is because I believe you are entitled to exercise your rights. I’ve even been known to defend the rights of socialists so go thinking it makes you special.

I have described you as the best neighbours I’ve ever had. The reason being that we took no interest in each other. Me, because I have no interest in the goings on of religious fundamentalists of any kind. You took no interest in me because I’m an outsider, and therefore evil and am going to hell.

Well, the situation has now changed, you’re on the wrong side of the fence and going though our rubbish bins, and seem to think you can buy control and power. We have enough of that going on already. You’re now the very worst of neigbours.
You do not use PI’s to try and get dirt on MP’s.

You do not seek to smear people with information you are fully aware is false.

You do not get to pervert our political system because you are under the delusional impression that you are chosen by god and have the money to try it.

You alone do not get to decide who is in parlaiment.

You do not get to live outside the law simply because you live outside of and apart from the community.

It’s time you got back inside the wire of your compounds.

Now read carefully: You do not want our complete and undivided attention, there’s four million of us.

    Well said.

  2. Russell Says:

While i have nothing but contempt for people who need a “higher power” as a crutch to get through life., i think you are being either harsh or ill informed with your comments on these scarf wearing mentalists. All we have seen is one news claiming they have identified the PI that the brethren hired to follow clarke. They offered no evidence of any kind to back this up other than claiming he had been used to do a bug sweep.
Please do not let yourself to be dragged into the smoke and mirrors game like most of the higher quality blogs in NZ.
There are only two issues that should be consuming us at the moment.
    1. Labours use of our money for the pledge card.
    2. Turias claim that the Maori party were offered a substantial bribe for agreeing to go with labour after the election.
Everybody is being sucked in by the carefully orchestrated campaign to obfuscate and cloud. We are all acting like kids at a birthday party enthralled by the sad old magician who pulls a hair out of his arse.

  3. Murray Says:

Well when I describe the EB as “neighbours” I mean it in the litteral sense.

aside from residing in close priximity to them I’ve worked several times with fomer members both male and female.

From what I know of their attitudes and practices coupled with the recent history of their behaviour and a couple of other things I’m aware of that MSM would call “unnamed sources” I’m personally satisified that the EB are making a play which is beyond that any citizen should be aiming for without actually running for office themselves.

While other matters are more pressing these guys do not get a free pass becuse it’s a busy news day.

What would you like me to do with the likes of Turia addmitting that Labour has tried to purchase support anyway? If the MSM don’t touch it the 200 people I reach aren’t going to be much help. Especially since half my readers are in NA.

Give it 24 hours anyway, it might turn out out I’ve given the pledge card issue more attention than I appear to have at the moment.

  4. andrei Says:

I don’t know what to make of this.

Wayne Idour is a fringe type. Are the Brethren that stupid and unChristian to do something like this?

Idour is an Christian Arab name btw not that its relevent.

If the future of our country and culture were not a stake this would be a great twist in the tail story

  5. Murray Says:

Andrei this latest accusation is pretty much irellevent at this point. The pattern of behaviour of the EB’s has lead us to a point where the public are ready to allow a PM to introduce censorship and limit freedom of speech.

I find it hard to believe they would be this stupid however that’s it clearly considered a free shot by PM is very telling about what she things she can pull off.

This is not a healthy political climate and the EB have had more the passing part in this.

  6. andrei Says:

If true the Brethren have violated of the 9th commandment

“Thou shalt not bear false witness against your neighbor”.

And you know where I stand on that eh Murray, we had a little difference of opinion on the importance of the 7th. I don’t want to enforce my morality on anybody but if people who aspire to public life held true to the Decalogue we sure as hell wouldn’t be in this mess.

I also know the left have a habit of demonizing the religious and the EB by their very nature are perfect scapegoats.

You’re right the agenda is too shut down free speech and to only allow state funding of Political parties and both of those scare the crap ot of me.

  7. Murray Says:

Well Andrei my position is that the commandments are one of the most missused documents in the modern world.

For a start did you know there is NO commandment against killing?

Do some translating - the word is “murder” not “kill”. There is a difference.

You can use the bible to justify almost anything and if you get to learn much about groups like the EB it’s not uncommon to find that the rules only apply within the group.

I have no interest in the EB or any tollerence for seeing them used as scapegoats. Right up untill what they’re doing impacts on me and my rights. Thats where we are now.

I would also point out that I feel pretty much the smae way about unions funding labour.

  8. Dave Says:

“You do not seek to smear people with information you are fully aware is false.”

“You do not get to live outside the law simply because you live outside of an apart from the comunity.”

You accuse the MSM of making shit up but here we have you doing a stella job all by yourself.

You don’t work for the PM do you?

  9. george Says:

No point in getting up the EB mate. Just see them as on the flank. While the rest of us were hoping the country wouldnt be so stupid as to vote labour back in they published their own reasons with their own cash to show why they shouldnt be voted back in.

Now we mark time while the country is in thrall to the cowardice of politicians and the quibbling of lawyers and bureaucrats.

If they publish another one, good luck to them. Tim Selwyn can help with the copy.

  10. Gadfly Says:

    Ah good

    More loony religious zealots

Just what the world needs more of right now.

  11. Murray Says:

Well dave, since the good people at Sir H’s did the detailed work on the pamphlet which showed that in at least one instace the EB had lied in their claims and the PI in question has confirmed his involvment it would appear that this jumbo portion of shut the fuck up pie would be yours.

    ya .

    big black dog

    up

    Get a

    Mix and match as required.

  12. Dave Says:

    Rebuke acknowledged.

Forgive my sensitivity to agnostic intolerance.

  13. sagenz Says:

muzza - i dont visit often but that is a good post. and the putdown in the comments got my second LOL for the evening. The first was Connells vow not to cut his hair while don is leader. Must be true, its in the MSM :)

  14. Lily Says:

you are all a bunch of total geeks, get a life, if the bretherens want to be crazy freaks then let them. if they think that we are all so evil then they should just shut up and stay in there communities and never come out.
