Murray a question.
I seem to recall that your father served in Malaya during the communist insurgency there.
Is that correct?
November 10, 2006 at 5:44 pm
More “near” Malaya than “in” really. He was in the navy. But more or less yes.
November 10, 2006 at 6:09 pm
That counts. I wanted to mention it in a comment on a Post. Its worth reminding people of these things IMHO. Not many people value these things anymore so its worth mentioning when the opportunity arises.

He’s also a Korean War vet.
November 10, 2006 at 6:36 pm
evening all.
November 10, 2006 at 6:37 pm
Korea - good on him.
Korea the forgotten war. And an unfinished one. I wonder how many people in NZ even know about that or the Malayan insurgency for that matter.

Slightly more than have ever heard of the Indonesian Confrontation or the invasion of East Timor.
We’ve been at war - hot and cold - with Indonesia since the end of WWII. A simple reality that it’s not PC to either remember or mention.

Off the course and back to work.
Now to see why a plant I left fully operational is FUBAR…
November 10, 2006 at 6:46 pm
Its quiet here tonite.
Had a major drama with a pre-teen, a school dance and “nothing to wear”. Oh joy.
Still its fixed now - peace reigns. Bliss

I think Australians have Indonesia in their consciousness. We don’t. We live in a fools paradise - sometimes described as a “benign strategic environment”.
November 10, 2006 at 7:04 pm
Evening all….Aaron check your inbox for a little present…the rest of you it is up on my site now.
November 10, 2006 at 7:05 pm
Hi Guys! I’ve put the link up.
That “benign” environment is going to get a heck of a lot more “benign” with the Dems in power in the US now.
November 10, 2006 at 7:09 pm
Not if you’re a neighbour of Iran.
November 10, 2006 at 7:11 pm
I realized the link wasn’t up - put it up about a nano second after you did Lucyna.
Felt foolish but used the handy dandy delete to kill mine - so nobody will ever know.
Phew

LOL!
I take one of my children swimming at the horrendous hour of 5pm on a Friday every week this term. Then it’s off to pick up the younger one from a friend’s house, because watching his older brother at the swimming pool is too boring for him, and then because I’m in the area, I pick up the husband from the train station. So we get home to frantic dinner prep before eventually getting here..
I wondered if you were putting the link up at the same time as me, Andrei. Luckily for you :P, my computer went into a death spiral with the new anti-virus/firewall program I’ve had installed that acts more like a virus than any virus it’s supposed to prevent. Hubbie assures me it’s fixable.

Grrr @ myspace.com.
That thing falls over all the time. Now that big enterprise has bought it, can’t they make it more sturdy?
November 10, 2006 at 11:08 pm
Evening all, apologies for my late arrival.
Just raced across the bush from Daylesford, Victoria, to Adelaide.
I have not ran into any kangaroos yet, but I did kill a small rabbit on the motorway coming into Adelaide.
I’ve seen quite a few dead kangaroos by the roadside, big buggers they are. And a couple of wombats, which is sad as they’re quite cute.
Anyway, there has been some stuff in the papers about some deal between the Oz government and Indonesia. But the biggest news is Labor scandal.
First there was some MP somehow being unlawfully “influenced” by a former WA premier. That came out in some corruption investigation and they played the tapes on tv, showing the former PM trying to pressurize a MP into giving someone a job.
More significant, is the pedophilia case involving a former Aboriginal Affairs Minister and related allegations that Labor officials were warned of this a year ago and did nothing.

Ahh after rwading this I feel more relaxed than I did at Kiwiblog!
November 12, 2006 at 7:50 am
Yes I agree kiwiblog has a vile stench about it - that could only come from the insidious leftie fungus ridden - green and red bush pigs from the sisterhood regime who delight in such pungency and putridness. Nice change to be in the company of decent people -cheers .
