Hey, hows that shutting down CYFS Watch thing going?

Well, if precedent is anything to go by…

Not looking so good.

Ever considered fixing the PROBLEM, not those drawing attention to it?

No, thats not the socialist way, is it.

What did you do when they came for Tim Selwyn?

What did you do when they came for CYFS Watch?

Don’t look for help when they come for you, the rest of us will already be gone.

Truth, like life, will find a way no matter how hard some people try to bury it.

It is foolish to imagine that the reprehensible and totally predictable CYFS response to CYFSWatch can be attrributable to a particular party affiliation.

Bureaucrats behave this way despite what party is in power, simply by taking their Minister hostage. A straightforward task for a senior bureaucrat in a nation whose governments of all stripes consistently rate political expediency ahead of the national good.

There are few ministers who can afford to clash with their departmental head when the minister has demanded and received special treatment for those interests which have served their party well.

Have we all forgotton the constant state of scandal that the Shipley and Bolger administrations failed to govern in?

As far as I’m aware the Helenites haven’t managed to get a memo sent around TVNZ News and Current Affairs declaring a broad range of topics ( eg health n hospital waiting lists, electricity charges, plusa couple of interesting tenders) verboten, in the way that Boagistas used to in the ‘good old’ 90’s.

Not for want of desire of course, but they don’t have the agents of influence in place in TVNZ that the nats have had, therefore the Helenites have been unable to implement that sort of strategy.

We should enjoy the freedoms that the net provides us with while we can for there is no doubt that ‘freedom of speech’ or whatever you want to call it is under threat on the internet.
Under threat from forces a lot more powerful than the Helenistas or any other NZ administration.

‘Freedom of speech’ as we understand it, really only existed in the the print media in the US. TV, radio and movies in the US have been subjected to a far greater degree of much less transparent censorship in Amerika, than most other so-called ‘western nations’.

Since the US Supreme Court managed to find a way to declare free to air broadcast media as not being subject to the constitutional right to free speech, and that was back in the day before that court was so blatantly ’stacked’ and beholden to conservative interests, it is highly unlikely that they will deem the net to be a free speech medium where the First Amendment reigns supreme..

The US ruling elite was extremely perturbed that the net set the agenda for the 2006 mid-term elections. That incudes the winners of that election who may preach a vaguely centrist form of social justice and benign capitalism.

As paid up members of Amerika’s ruling class the Demopublicans are just as committed to the empire as any neo-con Rethuglican and will do nothing other than loose huge cyclones of hot air and bluster upon the US populace whenever the debacle in the Mid East is under discussion.

They understand how precarious the position of all elected officials is when neither they nor their partners in crime on the other side of the House can control the information flow to the citizenry.

The net in 2008 will bear little resmblence to the net as we currently know it.

The War On Terra will be the primary justification for the repression which is to come.

The catch-all artificial construct of intellectual property has curtailed a great deal of previously free flowing information. The cynically named Net Neutrality Act will ensure that undesirable sites esp blogs become virtually unusable.

“Homeland security” is about to really come into its own as an excuse for ceasing all dissent. Just last night the Bliar’s puppet, formerly named the BBC, ran a documentary advocating the closure of all Islam oriented sites hosted in the UK.

Aparently the movers and shakers currently partying and speechifying at Davos have resigned themselves to the fact the Israeli driven, US executed, attack on Iran will commence early in the Northern spring. http://www.counterpunch.org/roberts01272007.html
Incidentally the author of that article is no pinko. Roberts was Assistant Secretary of the Treasury in the Reagan Administration.

It is time for people who care about personal freedoms to get away from the old tags of left and right, capitalist and socialist, used for so long by the corrupt to divide the citizenry and work together to ensure the great darkness of ‘managed information’ which seems likely to be cast over us all is vanquished.
