The three MSM networks (Communist Broadcasting System, Network of Broadcasting Communists and Associated Broadcasting Comunists) deliberately did their election return maps that way to avoid the obvious and natural associations of the colors with the proper political alignments. It was one of their all too common Orwellian bits of Newspeak.
