GHOST TANK

A hiss and a sigh amongst the grey mist
Gave no hint to the machine that hissed
It fell and rose over mud and stone
Crashing forward but not alone

Immense in size its heart beat fast
On an timeless mission that would last and last
Its crew and gun towards the hill
Rushed on and on vibrating still

With grinding tracks and crashing steel
Thrashed and roared a monstrous peel
A flash a bang erupted then
Moving earth and lifting men

The tank climbs up towards the mist
Another grey but famous twist
Amongst my memories the tank is a ghost
Amongst us all its our friend our host
