There’s only one problem

Not to put down the venerable David Kilcullen.. but COIN.. by it’s nature.. tends to look too closely at the problem. As I’ve said before, it doesn’t matter if we “win” in Afghanistan or Iraq. The global terrorist network is alive and well in other countries because we haven’t attacked the real problem which is the global financiers of terror.. namely in Saudi Arabia, Syria, Iran, etc… we are fooling ourselves and making a cottage industry out of bullshit military efforts. But then again, me and the boys at Small Wars and Long Wars Journal don’t see eye to eye.

  1. The argument is made that we cannot kill the snake by cutting off the head because it has no head-but it has to eat. Maybe we need to kill the guy that feeds the snake.

  2. Murray says:

Maybe we should take off and nuke the site from orbit.

Its the only way to be sure.

  3. Major Scarlet says:

well Murray, it’s looking like it may be nuke them before they nuke us. wanna bet our politicians don’t have the nuts?

  4. Murray says:

There as always been an ethical justification for selfdefense with the only real issue being sure that one was about to be attacked.

Given Irans telegraphing its punches we have a slam dunk moral and legal justification to turn Persia into a glass parking lot.

Its that or we allow them a free shot at the west and our leaders knowingly allow their citizens to die.

A rogue state unilaterally nuking another country is without precedent and entirely unthinkable. As was Sept 11 on Sept 12.

  5. I don’t want to be paranoid but FDR needed Pearl Harbor and Winnie needed Coventry…

  6. Murray says:

We don’t “need” LA glowing in the dark, we have suficient threat. Its about protecting ourselves from a credible threat not poll ratings.

And actually Winnie needed no such thing, he knew what was coming for years and fought to prepare for it. If needed I’ll send you my copy of the The Gathering Storm.

  7. actually the US and the UK needed it, it was the tipping point. There was no preperation for the GWOT, so the casualties at 9/11 did not have a focused impact, no a focused enemy for that matter. Have the book.

  8. BillT says:

We don’t “need” LA glowing in the dark…

    San Francisco, though…
